December 1st, 2013 - Stash Busting

Just a quick post. Lucas is coming over today and it will be play time. He’s so funny and quite the smart cookie. I don’t remember having so much fun when my boys were little. Maybe I did too many other thing like cleaning and cooking when they were babies but when Lucas is here, all we do is play.

Fabric used this week: 7.55 yds

Fabric used YTD: 151.23 yds

Fabric added this week: 0 yds

Fabric added YTD: 208.99 yds

Net fabric busted: -57.76 yds

So, if I make 6 or 7 quilts in the next month, I’ll break even. As if! Have a great week.

November 24th, 2013 - The Stash

Well, it was a good week here for the stash. Nothing added! Finally! But then nothing was used either. I did complete a comfort quilt that was all accounted for last week.

20131124-115714.jpgThis is for a guy whose only interest is crossword puzzles. Not that we make comfort quilts to order but we do have some man-themed fabrics like golf and fishing. I had a plan to make this look like a crossword puzzle but it was evolving into something way too intricate for a comfort quilt. I ended up sticking to my original plan of graphic fabrics, no florals here. A little square spiral in the border and it’s done.

20131124-115726.jpg  One more to finish up and then it’s my sewing time for the next month. So many plans in my head, I hope I get to some of them.

November 17th, 2013 - The Stash!

I know it’s been a while since I blogged about anything but life got in the way of quilting and blogging. Not that I blog that much. Anyway, only 20 more days of work and then I’m retired. I am so excited and time seems to be just dragging. I have tons to do once I have all that free time. My friend tells me that once you’re retired, everyone thinks you have lots of free time and they try to give you jobs to do. No thanks, I have plenty to keep me occupied.
Meanwhile on the quilting front, I have actually completed a few things and of course, added a whack of fabric. Mostly to complete quilts in the making or in my head and lots of backing.

20131117-104627.jpg
I helped make this quilt for my friend’s great grand daughter. I supplied the fabric and the idea behind it and I think she liked it. It was a difficult time, my friend was Ill and wouldn’t be able to see this new baby born. She ended up passing away 4 days after I brought the quilt back to her after quilting it. Very sad time!
Now I had bought lots of different fabrics for her to chose from. Too bad you can’t just borrow the bolts and bring them back if it didn’t work out. Now I have lots of owl and baby fabric in my stash.. I know it will all get used up in the end. There was lots of flannel purchased for backs of comfort quilts and just stuff (fabric) that I thought would be needed to finish quilts and stitching projects. Here are my numbers.
Fabric used this report: 21.09 yds
Fabric used YTD: 143.68 yds
Fabric added this report: 75.96 yds
Fabric added YTD: 208.99 yds
Net fabric busted: -65.31 yds
Everything I bought was on sale. I also bought a Light Pad for tracing out red work patterns. It’s really nice and flat to work on especially for lefties like me. I checked the internet and the local quilt shop here had the best price at their sale! I couldn’t imagine shipping one of them, I would be afraid it would break.
That’s all for now. Maybe I’ll have my s#%t together for next week so I can post again! See you soon.

June 30th, 2013 - The Dwindling Stash

Not that it’s dwindling by all that much. As long as it doesn’t increase. I worked on 2 comfort quilts, no pictures because they aren’t that exciting. I’m now working on a curved piecing project that’s been hanging around for a couple of years. I just found it and even though I don’t like the fabric, I’ll make it, give it away and be done with it. Now for this week’s numbers.

Fabric used this week: 3.48 yds
Fabric used YTD: 117.18 yds
Fabric added this week: 0 yds
Fabric added YTD: 109.03 yds
Net fabric busted: 8.15 yds

We’ve passed the halfway mark for the year. Now to get down to some serious stash busting. I have goals you know. Right!

June 9th, 2013 - The Stash

Guess what? I passed 100 yards. Now you guessing 100 yards of stash used or stash enhanced. Well if you guessed stash used, you are correct. If you guessed stash enhanced, you are also correct. No prizes though. Anyway, I completed “Convoy” from Buggy Barn for my grandson and now am in the process of quilting it.

20130608-235919.jpg Here’s the binding all ready to attach. I’ve decided to make bias binding for kid’s quilts to make them more durable. My sister made a quilt for her granddaughter and has already replaced the binding. I guess it’s well used. I really like bias binding especially for stripes. It looks so cool! I better hurry up and finish the quilting on this so you can all see it.
Now for my stash used/enhancement numbers.
Fabric used this week: 12.76 yds
Fabric used YTD: 112.26 yds
Fabric added this week: 17.86 yds
Fabric added YTD: 109.03 yds
Net fabric busted: 3.23 yds
All that added fabric wasn’t actually this week. I kept on forgetting to add it. I really have to watch my fabric buying in the future. I don’t have anywhere to put it and it’s getting a little out of control. I’m starting to feel like a hoarder but more organized than the ones on tv. At least fabric is something I can use and not like those hoarders who keep all the old newspapers and magazines. Oops, there 4 piles of quilting magazines in the other room. I’m going to go through them, right?
Have a great day!

June 2nd, 2013 - The Stash

Not much in the line of progress here. I’ve just been stitching some redwork projects and that fabric has already been accounted for. The only quilting project I’ve worked on is “Convoy” from Buggy Barn’s Crazy Kids book, for my grandson. I know, I’m finally making him a quilt. Better late than never. Needless to say, that’s the only stash I’ve used this week.

Fabric used this week: 3.75 yds

Fabric used YTD: 99.5 yds

Fabric added this week: 0 yds

Fabric added YTD: 91.17 yds

Net fabric busted: 8.33 yds

Now to get a move on and finish Lucas’ quilt. Have a great day!

May 19th, 2013 - The Stash

Well, I haven’t been around for the last few reports but I’ve been busy. And I did buy some fabric.

20130519-013734.jpg Ten yards in total. I don’t have any reproduction fabric and I needed some to go with these.

20130519-013919.jpg My neighbour found these and where ever it was, they were supposed to go in the garbage. She rescued them and thought I might be able to do something with them. So I’m going to try and make some blocks from that fabric to go with these. There’s 12 blocks and only 1 has a noticeable stain on it and it’s probably going to stay there because I’ve tried almost everything to get rid of it. Grandma’s stain remover is next.
There are some other blocks in purple, green and gold that need a real cleaning. One looks like blood. So when I have the time, I’ll get them all cleaned up, I hope, and show them to you.
Now for some numbers.
Fabric used this week: 7.3 yds
Fabric used YTD: 95.75 yds
Fabric added this week: 10 yds
Fabric added YTD: 91.17 yds
Net fabric busted: 4.58 yds
I’m still in the black. I have 5 more weeks of recuperation from a little surgery and one of the only things I can do is sew. Sew on that note, I’m going to do just that. Have a great week!

April 1st, 2013 - The Stash

Just a quick report, no photos. I sent out 2 quilts to the long-arm quilter and put together 7 backings. I’m finally going the right way! Yahoo!!!

Fabric used this week: 30.6 yds.

Fabric used YTD: 86.89 yds.

Fabric added this week: 0 yds.

Fabric used YTD: 81.17 yds.

Net fabric busted: 5.72 yds.

Now to stay out of the quilt shops.

February 17th, 2013 - The Stash

I’m finally back in to the positive numbers. Last night, as I was looking for a border piece, I found quite a few piles of fabrics. It reminded me of all the quilts I want to make. It was really hard to make myself finish the one I’m currently working on and not grab some of the newly found fabric and start cutting it out. Time to get serious about all this fabric. Here’s a peek at a couple of finishes.

20130217-110759.jpg I don’t want to show the whole quilt as it’s supposed to be a mystery quilt for a retreat I’m going to at the end of the month.

20130217-110957.jpgand this is the leftovers from that quilt.
Fabric used this week: 5.75 yds
Fabric used YTD: 38 yds
Fabric added this week: 0 yds
Fabric added YTD: 37.17 yds
Net fabric busted: 0.83 yds
I’m off to quilt. Have a great day! Lori, I know how much you love pink so I made them with you in mind.

February 3rd, 2013 - The Stash

Check it out, 2 weeks in a row! No bad if I say so myself. That also means I actually used some fabric  and didn’t accumulate any either. Although I do need some plain black but that will be for next month. I need to use up more before I purchase anything else. No photos because I never made anything. I just cut fabric for 4 quilts and boy, does that make my numbers look good!

Fabric used this week: 13.7 yds

Fabric used YTD: 27.06 yds

Fabric added this week: 0 yds

Fabric added YTD: 37.17 yds

Net fabric busted: -10.11 yds

I’m still in the negatives but I have a few more quilts to cut up and get ready to take up to my sister’s for our sew-a-thon at the end of the month. I can’t wait! Have a great Sunday and enjoy the Super Bowl, commercials and all.
