December 29th, 2014 - The Stash

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. I didn’t get on the computer much. It seemed like I was busy everyday, visiting with my family and friends. Lots of fun and laughter, that’s what it’s all about. Good times!

Anyway, here it is, the final stash report of the year. I had hoped to do better but there was so much cute fabric out there, I just had to buy it. Yeah, better luck next year. Now for those numbers.

Fabric used this time: 9.39 yds

Fabric used YTD: 234.19 yds

Fabric added this time: 27.59 yds

Fabric added YTD: 179.5 yds

Net fabric busted: 54.69 yds

Now that’s not so bad after all. I did use a load of fabric but my goal was to not buy any. My latest craze is Christmas fabric, I can’t seem to get enough of it. I never bought all that much of it before, mostly fat quarters that didn’t really go with anything else. More of that “what was I thinking” problem. When I bought it this year, I bought 2 or 3 yards of one fabric and 2 or 3 yards of another fabric to go with it. Smart thinking, right?

Have a Happy New Year and I look forward to see all your stash reports next year.

December 7th, 2014 - The Stash

Well, it’s been a while since I posted anything about anything. I’ve been pretty busy though, I went on a retreat, was a vendor in a craft show, took my mom for some tests (all good) and am now in the process of making a few more comfort quilts. I went to a retirement party on Friday night and heard  about 4 people who could use a nice quilt. It was weird! At least it wasn’t the guy who just retired.

Now for some numbers

Fabric used since the last report: 44.61 yds

Fabric used YTD: 224.8 yds

Fabric added since the last report: 42.82 yds

Fabric added YTD: 151.89 yds

Net fabric busted: 72.89 yds

I really want to be at the 100 yard mark of net fabric used for the year but I doubt I’ll be there. My friend just dropped off a few quilts that I offered to finish up as comfort quilts. I plan on getting them done, hopefully this week and distribute them before the holidays arrive. Thanks Deb for saving the day. Have a great week!

September 14th, 2014 - The Stash

So this week it’s not “what was I thinking” but ” where did that come from” and “when did I buy that”. I found a container of Christmas fabric in the family room. There are placemats all cut and ready to sew. even the applique is ready to iron on. I didn’t even know I had the stuff. I was looking for something else and I found that box. I couldn’t even tell you what I was looking for because once I found that box, I was digging in it and I must say, I love all the fabric in there. I guess there’s no “what was I thinking” here.

Now for my numbers.

Fabric used this week: 6.51 yds

Fabric used YTD: 144.17 yds

Fabric added YTD: 60.54 yds

Net fabric busted: 83.63 yds

I am in the process of sewing up the placemats and they are really cute, an Art to Heart pattern. I checked back in my spreadsheet to see if I ever counted this fabric and it wasn’t there. The book is from 2004 and I started doing stash reports in 2009. Lucky for me that I never counted all the fabric purchased before 2009, I’d be in the hole big time!

Anyway, have a great week and enjoy this beautiful quilting weather. Not too hot and not too cold.

September 7th, 2014 - The Stash

“What was I thinking” popped into my head so many times this week. I was looking through a bag of Christmas fabric and I kept wondering why I bought certain prints. What was I thinking? There are some that just don’t go with anything and others that there’s not enough to make a decent sized quilt. What was I thinking? Then I came to a decision that from now on when I buy fabric for my stash, which I won’t be doing any time soon, there has to be some explanation attached about why I picked that fabric. No more “what was I thinking”. I’m not even going to look in the rest of my fabric because I think I’d be at a loss as to “what was I thinking”.
Now for some numbers.
Fabric used this week: 8.4 yds
Fabric used YTD: 137.66 yds
Fabric added YTD: 60.54 yds
Net fabric busted: 77.12 yds
I did find half a jelly roll sewn together, why I don’t know, but I made 6 Christmas stockings from it.

And I made a table topper from fat quarters from the stash too. Just need to finish the binding on it and it’s done. Another productive week.

As I’ve been using up my stash, I haven’t noticed any difference yet in the size of it until this week. I emptied a drawer that had some Christmas fabric in it. Finally a visible stash reduction! Yeah! Now to go use up some more. Have a great day!

August 31st, 2014 - The Stash

I see it’s been awhile since my last post but life and family has a habit of getting in the way. Anyway, I finally seem to be getting a few things done for a craft show in November. I was asked to do one next weekend and I had to say no. I don’t have enough items ready to sell. But will I in November? Hopefully, I’ll get it in gear and create a few sellable items and not look like a complete doofus with my one lone quilt for sale. Now for some numbers.

Fabric used since the last time: 52.44 yds

Fabric used YTD: 129.26 yds

Fabric added since last time: 19.19 yds

Fabric added YTD: 60.54 yds

Net fabric busted: 68.72 yds

Now I know it seems like a lot of fabric was used but I count it as I cut it. I cut out 19 flannel baby quilts, with only 6 being finished but I need another 20 yards to complete them. They don’t take long to make, which is a good thing. I need to get the 6 quilted and move on to something else until I get that yardage. I saw some fabric at Quilting Confections, the local quilt shop, to make the cutest Christmas pillowcases but I’m  forcing myself to stay out of there. I did go just before this fabric arrived and everything I bought was 40% off. I even went in there to pick up some needles and Katrina asked me if I wanted to look around. Right! I almost ran out of there. It’s like being offered a brownie when you’re on a diet!

So I’m off to sew, sew, sew! Have a great long weekend!

July 13th, 2014 - The Stash

Ok, let’s try this again. I posted this originally from my iPad because it’s easier to have a few pictures. Then when I looked at the post on my laptop, the pictures were huge and I couldn’t figure out how to re-size them. Oh well, it will be a pictureless post again as I don’t have my camera and I can’t seem to remember how to do anything today.

I’ve had a good week, got lots of sewing done and even walked most days. Did some gardening too! I’m making some pocket tissue holders to sell at a craft show in November. I just love playing with fabric and seeing how the colours come together. I think this is my favourite part of quilting.

Fabric used this week: 3.94 yds

Fabric used YTD: 76.82 yds

Fabric added YTD: 41.35 yds

Net fabric busted: 35.47 yds

I just saw on a blog somewhere that all Moda fabric was 25% off. Boy would I like to remember where that was! Maybe it’s just as well, like I need more fabric!

Have a great week!

July 6th, 2014 - I’m Back

Finally, I get to be retired! My brother is much better and has returned to work and out of my house. Much as I love my brother, I don’t want to live with him again. Ever! I hope he stays nice and healthy or gets a wife to care for him.

On the quilting front, not much has gotten done and I just can’t seem to get anything done either. I finished hooking a rug, stitching the last panel of Winter Wonderland and now am trying to finish hand-quilting something I started a few years ago,  maybe 6 or 7 years ago. I need to get my mojo going as I have a table in a craft show in November. Hmmm…… what to make that would sell. I have lots of ideas, just have to get busy.

Now for my meager stash report.

Fabric used since the last time: 1.92 yds

Fabric used YTD: 72.88 yds

Fabric added YTD: 41.35 yds

Net fabric busted: 31.53 yds

I spent the last month in Barrie ON and visited a few quilt shops. I managed to buy only books and threads. I couldn’t even muster up the creative germ to look at fabric. I kept thinking of how I just wanted to go home and sew. Looking at quilting blogs and magazines only made it worse. Now that I’m home, all this house stuff is keeping me busy. Leaving 2 guys here alone for a month is trouble. I’m hoping this week to start sewing something.

Have a great week and keep cool!

April 27th, 2014 - The Stash

Here I am again. Three weeks in a row. New records are being set!

Anyway, I actually bought some fabric and I’m not happy about it at all. First off, I used a $25.- gift card and secondly, the fabric didn’t even match! I was so irritated by my choice I couldn’t believe it. I was trying to match up a red for a border on a quilt. I even took the top to the store and put all these reds up against it. I thought I had the right red and I was thinking of even taking it over to the window, just to be sure. Then I totally forgot to do it. I bought the rest of the bolt (3.12 yds) and then I went home. Once I laid it out at home, I could tell right away that it was the wrong red. Needless to say, I found a red in my stash that I must have missed and I’m sure I’ll be able to use that other red in the future.

On a better note, I made 5 quilt backs and that made up for the red. Here are my numbers.

Fabric used this week: 16.75 yds

Fabric used YTD: 70.96 yds

Fabric added this week : 3.12 yds

Fabric added YTD: 41.35 yds

Net fabric busted: 29.61 yds

This is going to be a very busy week. I have take my brother to London twice this week and maybe watch my grandson a day or two. That doesn’t leave much time to do anything. Oh well, there’s always the week after. I hope everyone has a great week.

April 20th, 2014 - The Stash

Happy Easter! I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful but chilly day. I’m going to go get my grandson shortly to give his parents a break. They are both sick with this rotten cold that this house just got over. I didn’t even watch the little guy this past week due to it. I hope no one else gets it.

Now on to the stash. Two weeks in a row. I think I’m setting a new record, for me at least. Here’s my numbers.

Fabric used this week: 8.82 yds

Fabric used  YTD: 54.21 yds

Fabric added YTD: 38.23 yds

Net fabric busted: 15.98 yds

I hope everyone has a great day and a great week too!

February 15th, 2014 - The Stash

My stash is getting smaller every week and I’m starting to like the challenge of using it up. Especially the part about spending no money to make all these lovely quilts. Anyway here are my numbers for the last couple of weeks.

Fabric used this week: 18.42 yds

Fabric used YTD: 29.06 yds

Fabric added this week and YTD: 0 yds

Net fabric busted: 29.06 yds

If I could use this much fabric every month, I’d be in the good! I do know that it might come to a screeching halt when I go to my sisters at the end of the month. I need some wide backings for 3 quilts and there’s some flannel there from Black Friday. Oops! That will be counted when I actually receive it. But I do know that I’m planning on using it for some comfort quilts that are sitting here waiting for it. I guess as long as it’s being used and not just stashed, all will be good.

Have a great day and maybe it’s sunny in your neck of the woods.
