December 5th, 2010 - The Stash
Well it’s week #49 and you know what that means. Only 3 weeks left to get to our goals. Oh no!  But there’s always next year to start all over again. If you wish, that is. I’m starting to re-think my goals for next year and maybe my whole quilting hobby. Not that I want to stop but maybe really slow it down and persue other interests. But that’s for next year. On to some numbers.
Fabric used this week: 2.125 yds
Fabric used YTD: 182.776 yds
Fabric added this week: 0 yds
Fabric added YTD: 181.985 yds
Net fabric busted: 0.791 yds
Looks like I’m just breaking even. At least I’m in the positives. I did some sewing but forgot to take pictures. On Thursday, my husband’s aunt took us out to dinner and to see Celtic Thunder, which was very good. I made her a Christmas table topper as a thank you and I didn’t even get all the binding sewed on before I gave it to her. She said she would finish it. I felt kind of bad but you know how it goes. When you’re in a hurry to complete something, everything goes wrong. My new machine was skipping stitches and pulling the top thread down in to the bobbin area. I was getting really frustrated. I had no time to do all that unpicking but I had to do it. Needless to say, it still turned out okay. Not my greatest work but it was very pretty anyway. She liked it and I even gave her a hand made card too. Lucky for me, I have a stack of cards all made up and ready to go. Â
That’s it for this week. Later! M-K

I understand the need to evaluate what creative hobbies we do. Hope you don’t give up quilting…. I’ve noticed that while I have not quilted that much, my purchases are more selective, which is good. But, I’ll buy when and what I want and I’ll play in the quilting room. But, it is fun to see what everyone does… Have a good week! Liz

Really? What other interests do you have? I gave up a bunch to keep quilting – I only have so much room in here for craft stuff, lol! I’m glad your aunt liked the table runner. That’s not good about your machine though.

Mary-Kay — I sure understand re-evaluating how much quilting you do as I’ve been thinking about it too. I am an accomplished quilter but I make mostly fast and easy pieces. I’m wondering if I shouldn’t pick a complicated, beautiful pattern and spend the time on it to make it wonderful. I give some of my quilts away to charity so there is an issue with that — I would want to continue to give my work to charity.
One quick question — how do you determine if you’ve used fabric? I have considered something used once a quilt is completely finished. Oops, 2 questions — how do you determine the amount of fabric you’ve used? I’m renegotiating with myself regarding next year’s fabric usage plan.

Everyone should reevaluate from time to time. Sometimes we need to remember what we LIKE about quilting.
